THE STORY OF CRAIGDHU, BETTYHILL CARAVAN & CAMPSITE

The site was opened back in 1959 by Mr Donald and Mrs Anne Mackenzie who ran it for many decades. Their youngest son Mr Reay S Mackenzie now owns the site and will continue to run and make improvements to it.

The site is located in the village of Bettyhill, on the A836 directly on the NC500 route.

Just a short walk from the site is Farr Bay Beach. Torrisdale Bay is on the other side of the village and both beaches are popular with surfers, families and dog walkers, although there is every chance that you will get the beaches to yourself.

SITE IMPROVEMENTS

Please be aware that improvements to the site are ongoing with the complete renewal of the existing electrics (to the statics and tourers) and additional EHU points for tourers taking it to 30.

Drainage and levelling of the site in areas will take place after the electrics and we hope that our visitors appreciate that without closing the site there will be some disruption to get the works done. The work will not disrupt sleep or having fresh water, chemical waste, toilets, showers or interfere with the beach views, beautiful walks, village amenities, surfing, hill climbing, fishing, paddle boarding, open water swimming.................... Bettyhill is an amazing location to explore.

If you have any queries or concerns about the site during this exciting phase then please contact us, we want to keep the site open while the improvements are made and as my auld gran would say -

"you cannae make an omelette without breaking an egg"

Want to bring a Static Van to Bettyhill for 2024 then there are spaces available.

Any van brought to site in 2024 must be manufactured in 2009 or younger. Site Fees for 2024 are -

£1250+VAT 1st April - 30th September (payable by 31st March)
£2375+VAT 1st April - 31st March (payable by 31st March) this price includes a 10% deduction on the winter 6 months.
£1250+VAT 1st April -30th September (payable by 31st March) and then £250 +VAT for every additional winter month payable on the 1st of the additional month required.

Electricity and Water charges to be paid monthly by the static owner.

Yeah the rain has finally stopped.

Cyclists, Campers and the Campsite have all been a bit soggy the past two days but they're a hardy bunch that visit us at Craigdhu, I'm especially loving this floral/duck tent 😁

No waves at Farr Bay today, perfect for a swim or paddle boarding. I decided to watch the jelly fish, flounders, sea anemones, snails and sand eels.

All this is just a short walk from the campsite.

Camping in style and with space.

These cheery chaps pitched up tonight in their very spacious accommodation for the night, I couldn’t believe they were just staying for one night after pitching a mahoosive tent.

Any accommodation with one person is just £15 per night.

For all static owners or any tourers passing through Bettyhill -

Gas Refills can be purchased at Bettyhill Garage. Turn down the road at the post office and when you get to the T junction the garage is just to the left.

Wednesday 14th June 2023. The site is open to all, however we will have 55 cars overnight with the occupants camping in the lower field. Food, drink and alcohol will be available on site. Looking forward to a good night.

Managed a wee break from admin, cleaning and taking calls to hit the beach while the sun was shining. Just perfect.

18th April 2023 - travelling along the north coast today? Don’t spend this gorgeous weather behind the wheel. Stop off in Bettyhill for the night and enjoy a walk along Farr beach.

Plenty of space at Craigdhu Campsite. Hookups, immaculate showers and toilets, fresh and waste water points - all from as little as £15 per night.

Why stay at Bettyhill? Craigdhu is 49 miles from John o'Groats (1 hr 10 mins) and 41 miles from Durness (1 hr 20 mins). So the perfect half way spot to stop off and explore the area.

There is 21 EHU points and plenty of space if hookup is not required.

No booking necessary, just come along, pick a pitch and plug in. Payment can be made with cash, card, Paypal or bank transfer on the evening of arrival or if you are heading out in the evening call at the house next door the the post office (191) which is just a short walk from the site and payment can be received there. Very reasonable prices.

The season has certainly started off with some amazing folk turning up at the site. I love chatting to our customers to find out where they are from, where they are travelling to, meeting their family and pets and offering advice on where to go and what to see here in Bonnie Bettyhill.

The couple that owned this van bought an ex plasters vehicle and turned it into an adventure - the most homely wee space to travel and experience what travelling has to offer. Well done on your mini travelling home and enjoy every minute of where you go.
